Nezuko is a key character in Kimetsu no Yaiba, the factor that causes other Demon Hunters to rethink the nature of demons. Moreover, she is also affectionately called “national little sister” thanks to her pure personality and cute appearance. Besides her pastel pink eyes and pink kimono that won her the hearts of the audience, the small bamboo tube she always keeps on her mouth sets her apart from other characters in the series. However, Nezuko ‘s small bamboo tube is not only a decorative item, but also a way to control the bloodlust of the demon inside her.

Nezuko is a key character in Kimetsu no Yaiba, the factor that causes other demon slayers to rethink the nature of demons. Besides that, she is also affectionately referred to as “national little sister” thanks to her pure personality and cute appearance. Aside from her pastel pink eyes and pink kimono that won her the hearts of the audience, the little bamboo tube she always keeps in her mouth sets her apart from other characters in the series. However, Nezuko ‘s small bamboo tube is not only a decoration, but also can control the bloodlust of the demon inside her.

When the Kamado Tanjiro and Nezuko brothers’ families were brutally massacred, Nezuko was turned into a demon. Although Nezuko ‘s demonic instincts drove her to attack her brother, a miracle allowed her to overcome her bloodlust to love and protect her children.

Remember, Nezuko was first given a bamboo muzzle in the first volume of Kimetsu no Yaiba. After Nezuko ‘s transformation into a demon, Demon Slayer Giyu Tomioka intended to defeat her as intense hunger caused her to attack Tanjiro. However, when Giyu realized Nezuko’s change of heart, he was stunned by her miraculous efforts to protect his brother. Instead of killing her, he knocked her unconscious and placed a bamboo tube in her mouth to keep her from biting with her fangs.

The bamboo muzzle prevented her from sinking her teeth into humans and also from biting herself, intentionally or accidentally. Although the bamboo tube helped suppress Nezuko‘s hunger , it was not a magical tool that completely neutralized her aggression towards humans, this rare ability was due to Nezuko’s strong will. Also, Urodokai’s efforts to hypnotize Nezuko into thinking of all humans as one family also help her fight the demon within her.

The question is, if Nezuko was hypnotized into loving humans, why does she still need to wear a bamboo muzzle? While the bamboo tube may not be the key to helping Nezuko control the bloodthirsty nature of the demons, it does have vital effects nonetheless. With her mouth securely locked, there’s no chance that Nezuko will accidentally get human blood in her mouth, which could make her barbaric and reverse her transformation process into a human-loving demon.

The bamboo snout can be said to act as a sealing object, both to “prevent” and “protect” and to help her hide the demon’s characteristics, showing her as a symbol of peace. When wearing a bamboo tube, Nezuko looks like any other human, allowing her to blend into the human world more easily, but Demon Hunters can see through this cover.
Especially the Pillars – but whoever hated demons so much had to go easy on a demon like Nezuko. It was her existence that changed the view of the demonic nature of most of the other characters in the story. She is also the key character that makes Tanjiro always stand in the middle of the neutral line, serving as a bridge between the two races of Demons and Humans.
