Demon Slayer Facts

Why Demon Slayer has the potential to be the next big mainstream anime.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train has recently released. It was the first film I’d seen in a theatre since the outbreak. My expectations were sky-high after waiting months for the film to be released in the United States after it had only aired in Japan. The Demon Slayer TV series has taken the anime industry by storm since its April 6, 2019 release, fast becoming one of the most popular anime series in recent years.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train was also a smash, breaking multiple records, including being the highest-grossing picture in Japan. The film takes up where the first season ends, and the wait was well worth it: it’s one of the best next-gen anime films I’ve seen. Following in the footsteps of masterpieces like Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, and One Piece, I’m confident that Demon Slayer will go down in history as one of the most successful shounen anime series of all time, with Season 2 set to premiere in 2021.

Despite the fact that Demon Slayer isn’t the most groundbreaking anime, it’s worth noting that it wears its influences on its sleeves without coming across as derivative or uninteresting. The plots, character qualities, topics, and animation style of animes like Naruto, Bleach, and Inuyasha have a lot in common.

The tale and characters, on the other hand, are distinct and thrilling enough to be highly engaging on their own. I’d even argue that the obvious Demon Slayer influences add to the viewing experience, giving the anime a nostalgic feel while conveying a new story. It also helps broaden the shounen genre while retaining its signature style. Demon Slayer reminds me of all the reasons I fell in love with anime in the first place, with samurai sword combat, magical abilities, positive messages, and adorable characters like Tanjiro, Nezuko, Inosuke, and Zenitsu. As with the best shounen anime of the past, the series deals with themes of family, altruism, tenacity, and faith.

Another reason I believe Demon Slayer has the ability to outperform its predecessors is because the producers have access to production and other resources unavailable to previous anime. The Demon Slayer film and television series include a superb blend of current CGI and traditional Japanese animation, giving the genre a new spin. The way Ufotable (the animation company) depicts elemental strikes in a traditional Japanese art style is outstanding. The contrast between the dark background and the bright colours truly sets the anime apart and makes it a lot of fun to watch. Newer animated productions like Demon Slayer often enjoy a larger budget. Through its imaginative production, the series was able to expand the clichés it employs, making it more appealing to a larger audience. Demon Slayer is a visual delight, including some of the best anime animation I’ve ever seen.

While other notable anime releases in recent years have included Black Clover, My Hero Academia, and Dr. Stone, Demon Slayer‘s ability to garner such critical acclaim and notoriety in such a short period of time makes me believe that he has a good chance of becoming the next big thing in mainstream anime. The franchise’s enormous success can be attributed to its unique animation style, nostalgic cliches, and engaging characters and storylines.

Throughout this process, the series has broken numerous national and international records, and most importantly, it has produced a high-quality anime series that can be enjoyed by fans of all generations. Demon Slayer reminds me of the tiny kid I was when I first started watching Dragon Ball Z and Naruto in my living room. However, it adds an interesting new twist to the genre and continues to set the standard for new anime quality. Mugen Train: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie deserved its success and was well worth the wait.
