Rui | Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba
A young demon who holds the Lower Five Moon position, he was originally a sick child before Muzan turned him and he later killed his parents in self-defense when they attempted to kill him before s take life. This ordeal caused Rui to forget his parents while receiving Muzan’s permission to turn other humans and demons with his blood into a surrogate family which he abuses due to his lack of understanding of family ties. This played into his urge to see the Kamado siblings devoted to each other, as they managed to seriously injure him before he was easily killed by Giyū, remembering his parents in his final moments then. that he found them in death.
Many years ago, Rui was born with a weak, frail, and easily stressed human body. Even just walking and breathing was difficult for him, leading him to spend the majority of his life trapped in his home being cared for by his mother and father who, despite his frailty, loved and supported him. deeply cherished.
One night, Rui was approached by Muzan Kibutsuji who then offered to “save” him and turned him into a demon. Now possessing a strong body, Rui was finally able to move freely for the first time, bringing joy and happiness to his parents. However, this didn’t last, as he was now a demon that Rui needed to sustain himself by eating humans, leading to him killing a man in his house. This bloody scene was later discovered by his parents who were immediately horrified by what their son had done. That night, his father and mother agreed that Rui had to be stopped and attempted to kill him in his sleep to prevent him from doing worse in the future. His father then tried to sneak up on him with a knife and told him not to worry as he planned to kill himself for killing his son, while his mother cried and sobbed outside his door. However, Rui woke up and, angry at their assassination attempt, killed them both in self-defense, thinking that his real parents would never try to kill him and thus considered them imposters in the denial. However, as his mother lay dying, Rui overheard her regretfully apologizing for not being able to give him a healthy body when she died, causing him to remember his father’s last words, to him. promising that he and his wife would follow him to the afterlife by committing suicide, made him realize that his parents really loved him and simply tried to keep him from becoming a monster, thus throwing Rui even further into emotional disarray. However, Rui persisted in the lie that his connection to his family was fake, as he received words of encouragement from Muzan, who backed up his initial denial that they couldn’t be his family, as he didn’t. didn’t accept his demon status, and encouraged him to simply seek a new family.
As a demon, Rui continued to kill and eat humans to gain strength until he finally achieved the position of Lower Moon Five and joined the Twelve Moons of Demons after being recognized by Muzan. . Due to the repression of his painful memories as a human, Rui asked Muzan if he could make a “family” for himself; the latter then allowed him and he began to gather suitable “family members” who would each take on the role of his new parents and siblings.
In the Anime, he is shown to have come across a lonely demonic woman while running from a group of demon slayers. He then simply asked her if she wanted to be saved by him and if she agreed, the Demon agreed to her doing whatever he told her, desperate for her life, so Rui easily dispatched the Demon Slayer Group and warmly welcomed the Woman into his “family”, he then proceeded to give her a small drop of his blood to enhance her power and painfully alter her physical appearance to resemble his own and officially recognized her as his new ” Older sister “. Later, Rui was informed by the Spider Demon’s Older Sister that one of her other older sisters was planning to escape from the mountain and leave the family. Enraged,
Personality of Rui
Rui was a troubled individual who desired the close bonds a family has and expected family members to play their own part. To him, “family members” who don’t fulfill their role as he expects them to (i.e. protect Rui unconditionally or follow his instructions) are worthless and as if dead.
Although he longs for a “family”, his view of it is incredibly twisted and based on nothing but fear of him, instilled by repeated abuse of his loved ones, which he does with sadism. impenitent.
Well aware of his power, he is incredibly bossy and cruel and has no qualms about mistreating others or punishing his “family” by bending them over and leaving them to be sunburned when they go against him. of his wishes. Due to his strength, he tends to act with all his might and confidence, though this arrogance, while hardly unfounded, does not blind him to potential threats to his life.
Interestingly, Rui is incredibly sensitive about family and was furious when Tanjiro pointed out the more than obvious toxicity of the ties between his “family”, which angered him to the point. to demand that Tanjiro recant and recant his words and to threaten to kill him if he didn’t obey. This position stands in stark contrast to her desire to have Nezuko as a sister, after witnessing her selfless act of protecting Tanjiro from his sons, becoming obsessed with developing a bond with her, albeit always through fear and the torture. This annoying behavior is further evidence of Rui’s delusions, mental madness, and emotional instability.
Rui’s Abilities and Powers
Due to being a demon and being one of the twelve Moon Demons receiving more blood from Muzan Kibutsuji than he received, Rui possesses incredible power, easily surpassing that of other demons. , seen how he managed to conquer and cohabit many demons in Natagumo Mountain and force them to work for him and become his family as they recognized that he surpassed them by far. The proof of his strength is even more evident when he was able to easily crush talented fighters like Tanjiro Kamado and kill dozens of Demon Slayers with little effort.
Enhanced Durability – Rui commented that his body is incredibly durable and difficult to cut, his hardness easily surpassing that of lesser demons. Tanjiro noticed that Rui’s skin was much thicker than his “Father’s”, Rui even admitted that his skin’s durability far exceeded that of his own sons.
Enhanced Strength – Rui has displayed superhuman strength, being able to physically overpower Tanjiro by simply kicking him, despite possessing enhanced physical strength himself.
Regeneration – Being one of the twelve Moon Demons, Rui possesses strong regenerative power as seen when he healed easily and showed no visible pain from the cuts and scratches from Nezuko.
Threads – Much like the rest of his “family”, Rui’s main form of combat utilizes threads which he creates using his own cells for attack and defense, the threads sharpness and durability being powerful enough to easily break a Nichirin Blade and be able to easily subdue and capture other Demons.
Demon Blood – Just like Muzan, Rui can increase and strengthen another demon’s overall power and give them access to new abilities by giving them a drop of their own blood, this in order to strengthen each of their “family” members which were all weak demons originally.
Cellular Manipulation – as revealed by the Elder Sister Spider Demon, Rui has the ability to manipulate and change the physical appearance of other demons that consume her blood, having altered her ‘sister’ physical traits to match to his own, he probably did the same with the other members of his “family” to look like him.
Blood Demon Technique:
When Rui uses his full strength, he begins to pump more of his blood into his hands which then expand into his threads, increasing the threads’ sharpness and cutting ability to then perform his techniques.
Cruel Rope Prison: Rui creates a web-like rope around his opponent to cut them into pieces.
Cage of Murderous Eyes – Rui creates a cage from his web around the target, which continually shrinks until it cuts the target into pieces.
Severed Wire Wheel – Create a spinning wheel of wire that, when it hits the opponent, cuts them into pieces.
