The Mountain Natagumo arc (那な田た蜘ぐ蛛も山やま編へん Natagumo Yama Hen?) is the fifth arc of Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Synopsis
Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke go on their first mission together and venture to Mount Natagumo after receiving a message from Kasugai Crow.
Too scared to go to the “scary mountain” with Tanjiro and Inosuke, Zenitsu stays behind. Tanjiro and Inosuke encounter a mountain riddled with cobwebs and controlled by spider demons. These demons have already eliminated countless Demon Slayers, which forces Kagaya to send the Hashira as reinforcements.
Zenitsu climbs the mountain after realizing that Tanjiro has put Nezuko in danger. After convincing Inosuke to work together, Tanjiro and the boar defeat the Spider Clan’s mother. Zenitsu meets the brother and hones his abilities to the very limit. Despite being poisoned, Zenitsu defeats the Spider Demon alone.
As Tanjiro attempts to tend to Inosuke’s wounds, they encounter the Spider Sister and then his father. The Demon Father separates Tanjiro from Inosuke and goes after the lone boar. Meanwhile, Tanjiro meets Rui, the clan’s creator.
Giyu aka the Water Hashira arrives with his companion Shinobu Kocho, the Insect Hashira, on the mountain and rescues Zenitsu and Inosuke. Tanjiro calls the ties between the Spider Family fake, which angers Rui. They engage in a fierce fight where Rui intends to kill Tanjiro and make Nezuko his own sister.
Refusing to sever their own bonds, Tanjiro and Nezuko battle and nearly manage to defeat the demon through newly awakened abilities. Tanjiro unlocks his ability to use his father’s Hinokami Kagura: Dance and Nezuko unleashes his own Blood Demon Art: Explosive Blood.
However, Rui survives the battle and nearly kills them both. Giyu saves the siblings in time and effortlessly defeats Rui. At the same time, Shinobu gets rid of the family’s sister and finishes off the demons. Rui regains his human memories and regrets his actions before entering the afterlife, where he is reunited with his family.
Shinobu tries to kill Nezuko because she is a demon but Giyu defends the siblings. Tanjiro attempts to escape with Nezuko but they are caught by Shinobu’s assistant, Kanao Tsuyuri. Shinobu warns Giyu and Tanjiro that they are both going against the rules of the body by helping a demon. Before things get ugly, the Kusagai crows announce that the two siblings are going to be taken into custody.
