Story

In the past, Nakime was an obscure amateur biwa musician who struggled to earn a living. But the man she married was desperately addicted to gambling and squandered his winnings and savings without helping to improve their lives.

During the night, she had to go and perform her biwa on a particular stage, but she discovered that her husband had stolen her stage dress and wasted it on the game. Enraged, Nakime killed her husband using a hammer. Shortly after killing her husband, Nakime realized that the time to perform was fast approaching, and she was forced to wear a worn and ragged dress to rush to the stage. However, the crowd didn’t appreciate her seedy appearance, and with the traumatic feeling of having committed the murder for the first time still fresh in her mind, her hands shook with nervousness as she played her biwa.

But surprisingly, the sound coming from the biwa that Nakime played with the greatest tension was so beautiful that his audience cheered and shouted for an encore. His customers and the owner of the stage are happy with this unexpected result and Nakime earns a very good living. Since then, Nakime made a habit of killing people before playing biwa in front of large audiences. Strangely, every time she performed her biwa after committing murders, her performance received overwhelmingly positive feedback from patrons and stage managers.

On one fateful day, when she had the routine appointment to perform on another stage, she stalked her victim to kill her. This victim was none other than Muzan Kibutsuji. But Muzan was a demon, and Nakime learned that the hard way by effortlessly defeating her. But Muzan was impressed with Nakime’s research abilities, so he spared his life and offered him to become a Demon. Nakime accepted his offer, became a Demon and eventually became one of Muzan’s servants.

Entertainment District Arch

Nakime plays his biwa again to summon the senior brass to a meeting after Daki and Gyutaro’s death.

When Akaza asks her where Muzan is, she bluntly replies that he hasn’t arrived yet. She is also asked about the whereabouts of High Rank One, to which she replies (after Akaza and Doma’s fight) that it has always been there; he was the first to arrive.

At the end of the meeting, Nakime again plays his biwa to separate the higher-ups and flatly refuses Doma’s offer, cutting him off by sending him back to his temple.

Hashira’s Training Arc

Nakime, now the new High Rank 4 replacing Hantengu, is shown with Muzan. Using small eye familiars, she tracked down the Demon Slayers and determined their location and hiding place. Claiming to be honored by Muzan’s compliments for her rapid growth, she uses her technique to locate Kagaya Ubuyashiki.

When the Demon Slayer Corps arrive at the Ubuyashiki Mansion in an attempt to stop Muzan, they are all transported to Infinity Castle and separated from each other by Nakime.

Obanai Iguro and Mitsuri Kanroji are the first to encounter her, but it is extremely difficult for them to hit her due to her control over the environment.

After Kokushibo’s death in Chapter 176, Nakime is the only remaining Top Rank and the last member of the Twelve Kizuki.

Later, at the start of Tanjiro and Giyu’s fight against Muzan, the latter reveals that Nakime managed to “defeat” Obanai and Mitsuri by crushing them to death in the rooms of his castle. However, she is taken by surprise when the supposedly dead duo launch a surprise attack on her, still very much alive, and angrily ask Nakime what she is doing. Muzan is shocked upon learning that Yushiro has completely taken over Nakime’s Vision, and with it, the Infinity Castle, which he begins to use against the Demon Lord in revenge for Tamayo’s murder.

Muzan immediately begins countering Yushiro, using his own mental powers in order to regain his last superior rank, which ignites a fierce battle of wills between the two demons. This mental fight sends the castle completely out of control as the two struggle for dominance, and, as Muzan seems to have the upper hand, Obanai and Giyu launch an attack on the Demon Lord. The latter has no choice but to counter, causing him to lose his grip on Nakime as he attempts to defend himself and fend off the Hashiras with his own attacks.

Quickly realizing that he cannot retake Nakime and fight the Demon Slayers at the same time, Muzan uses his powers to kill his last High Rank by crushing his head, which prevents Yushiro from using the castle against him and allows him to to fully focus on killing the remaining Hashiras and Tanjiro. As Nakime doesn’t immediately disintegrate, Yushiro manages to use his body to push the castle above ground to protect the Demon Slayers.

Abilities

General Abilities: As the new holder of the High Rank 4 title, Nakime possessed tremendous strength. She was able to use her abilities to simultaneously stand up to Obanai and Mitsuri, two incredibly strong Hashira, without either of them being able to scratch her.

Eye Detachment: Later, after getting the higher rank 4 and presumably receiving more blood from Muzan, she showed the new ability to create and detach multiple eyeballs from her body. This allows him to spy on others from a distance. Using this new ability, she was able to find and locate the positions of nearly every member of the Demon Slayer Corps as well as the hidden mansion of Kagaya Ubuyashiki, who had gone to great lengths to conceal its location even from members. the highest in the Demon Slayer Corps.

A Skilled Biwa Player: Nakime was an expert Biwa player, attracting the attention of others when she played while still human.

Castle Manipulation: Nakime possesses the ability to manipulate and create a seemingly infinite castle simply by playing his biwa. She can create and shape rooms, such as an open room filled with giant pillars where the fight against Kokushibo took place; a small garden where the fight against Doma took place; a hallway leading to several other rooms where the fight against Akaza took place. Nakime can also use this ability for offensive purposes by shaping pieces into gigantic pillars and ramming them into enemies to crush them. By tying and rooting her hair to a nearby wall inside the castle, she could control the position of the castle as she pleased: she could move and change the position of different rooms and walls as if they were its own members.

  • Creation of portals: Nakime can also create portals in the form of doors. She can use her portals for both offensive and defensive purposes, such as when she created a portal to negate Mitsuri Kanroji’s attack. One of his main duties is to act as a transport for other high-rankings when they are sent on missions and to help Muzan move around the country undetected.
  • Space Manipulation: Nakime can manipulate the space in his castle to a certain extent. She can use this ability to teleport everyone in her castle to any other location or even outside without having to create portals.

Triviality

  • Nakime bears many similarities to the former lower Rank 6, Kyogai. They both use the Blood Demon Arts which allow them to freely manipulate a specific structure at will, have a musical instrument to use their individual techniques, and have been given their epithets based on these instruments.
  • She was one of Muzan’s favorite high-ups, as he thinks her ability is useful.
  • Nakime’s name was mistakenly translated as “Nasume” in the official English version of Volume 12.
