Kiriya anime 1

Kiriya Ubuyashiki (産うぶ屋や敷しき 輝き利り哉や Ubuyashiki Kiriya?) is the only son and second child of Kagaya Ubuyashiki and the head of the Ubuyashiki family. After his father’s death, he leads the Demon Slayer Corps as the 98th and final leader.

Kiriya has fair, pale skin and large eyes. He has the same hairstyle as the rest of his siblings: a short haircut with bangs covering his eyebrows, black in color. Since he was raised as a girl, he takes on a more feminine appearance when he first appears.

During the final selection event, Kiriya wears a purple kimono with patterned flowers and a green obi. Her head is adorned with a wisteria-shaped headdress.

Later in the manga, after becoming the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps, he wears a black kimono with a long white haori reminiscent of his father’s.

In his first appearance in the series, during the final selection round, Kiriya comes across as polite, knowledgeable, and somewhat emotionally detached, having calmly and politely greeted the trainees along with his sister. , professionally explaining the details of the event. He is not surprised when Genya Shinazugawa manhandles his sister.

Later, when his father, mother, and sisters die, Kiriya shows a whole different side of himself, demonstrating his leadership abilities. He immediately takes up his new duties and organizes himself to monitor and command the demon slayers during their attack on Muzan Kibutsuji and his Twelve Kizuki, despite having just lost half of his family and not even having didn’t have time to mourn them. He shows more mental and emotional strength than his younger sisters, who momentarily burst into tears of grief.

However, when his plan results in the slaughter of many Demon Slayers, Kiriya cracks under the stress and stops giving orders, much to the dismay of his sisters. He manages to pull himself together after Kanata slaps him.

Kiriya was born to Kagaya Ubuyashiki and Amane Ubuyashiki as the third child and only son out of five children. He was born after his two older twin sisters and before his two younger twin sisters. As the family’s only son, he becomes the male heir, the next head of the Ubuyashiki family, and the first in line to inherit his father’s position as commander of the Demon Slayer Corps.

From birth, his parents raised him as a girl because he was weak and fragile.

Infinity Castle Arc

The legacy

More than a century after Muzan’s defeat, Kiriya is still alive and the oldest living person in Japan. This feat earned him an interview with a journalist, although he remained unresponsive due to his advanced age. The fact that he lived so long is proof that the disease that had cursed their family disappeared along with Muzan.

  • Leadership Skills: Much like his father, Kiriya exhibits advanced skills in leading and commanding an army in battle despite his young age. He is able to immediately take over the command structure of the Demon Slayer Corps and assist the Hashira as logistical support, guiding them in battle.
  • Intuition: Like his father and ancestors, Kiriya has a high, almost prophetic intuition, able to make precise guesses and hypotheses that have often been proven to be correct through feeling alone.
  • Extraordinary Memory: Kiriya has a very good memory. He and his sisters are able to map and memorize the almost constantly changing Infinity Castle, creating precise maps to navigate and guide the Hashira in real time.
  • Longevity: Due to their relative, Muzan, becoming the first Demon, the males of the Ubuyashiki family were cursed with a mysterious disease, causing them to die usually in their thirties. However, after Muzan died, the curse was apparently lifted. In fact, Kiriya was blessed with an exceptionally long life, still being alive over a hundred years later and currently being the oldest living person in Japan.

  • Kiriya shares the same Japanese and English voice actors as Madoka Kaname from Madoka Magica.
