Compared to you, I’m not that important, so thanks aren’t necessary. I survived the selection by chance. Since then, I’m afraid to fight, so I’m a coward.

Aoi Kanzaki to Tanjiro Kamado in You Are…

Aoi Kanzaki (神かん崎ざき アオイ Kanzaki Aoi?) is a demon slayer, though she works as an aide at Butterfly Mansion rather than going to the front lines.

Appearance

Aoi has deep blue eyes that fade to a lighter blue at the bottom, with white rectangular pupils, straight black hair with parted bangs, and a ponytail. She wears two blue butterfly clips to hold her twin tails in place.

Aoi wears the standard Demon Slayer uniform, with a white nurse’s dress over it. His uniform is slightly tinted blue. She is often seen with a scowl.

Personality

As Aoi has trained Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira, she is very tough on them and often pushes them to their limits. She has a firm personality, unlike her colleagues at Maison Papillon.

Aoi’s personality is somewhat similar to that of young Shinobu Kocho, volatile and outgoing. She often appears angry, usually displaying how she feels very clearly. However, she sometimes expresses more tender emotions, such as when she states that she enjoyed the time spent with the trio when they were at the mansion, she seems openly surprised by Tanjiro’s comfort towards her, and she bursts into a rage. sobs while talking about Inosuke’s serious injuries.

Despite her somewhat gruff demeanor, she is inwardly kind and caring, doing her best to help hunters who come to the mansion.

Story

At some point, Aoi’s family was killed by demons. She was therefore taken in by the Manoir des Papillons, where she took up residence.

Aoi managed to survive the final selection, although she claims it was pure luck. She was too afraid to go into battle despite her success in the final selection and therefore decided to work at the butterfly mansion. She seems to underestimate her own work, saying she doesn’t do much compared to full-fledged hunters.

Although she cannot fight, she is well versed in medicine and was probably trained by Shinobu. She helps with the upkeep of the mansion and tends to injured hunters.

Synopsis

Rehab Training Arc

Aoi first meets Tanjiro when she discovers him and the Kakushi talking to Kanao Tsuyuri in the garden. She takes them inside, to the rehab beds, showing obvious frustration at Zenitsu’s constant moans, hurt. She takes care of the trio throughout their stay.

During the training portion of their recovery, she explains general training methods to them, including massages, learning reflexes, and tag games. Aoi and Kanao both play reflex and tag games. Aoi is quickly beaten by Zenitsu, who refuses to douse her with medicine water. She is still unhappy with him, because she heard him say that it would be wonderful to train with girls, since he can touch them. He also beats her in tag, but she kicks him when he gets too tactile.

Aoi is also defeated by Inosuke in the games, and later by Tanjiro. She gets upset when Inosuke and Zenitsu don’t come to practice anymore.

When the trio leave, she tells Tanjiro that she enjoyed sharing her time with him and wishes him luck. Tanjiro responds by thanking her for taking care of him, but she defends herself by saying that it was no big deal since she can’t fight like the others. Tanjiro tells her that not being able to fight has nothing to do with it and that since she helped him, he will carry his feelings into battle as well. Aoi seems surprised by this answer, but isn’t unhappy about it.

The relationships

Tanjiro Kamado

Aoi and Tanjiro seem to have struck up a friendship. Tanjiro respects Aoi for his help and care when he, Inosuke, and Zenitsu were residing at the mansion. He also thanks her for her work and help, which she seems to appreciate. He steps in for her when she is kidnapped by Tengen, and defends her when Tengen says she is not helpful saying everyone has their own circumstances. When Tanjiro leaves the butterfly villa, Aoi tells him that she enjoyed their time together.

Kanao Tsuyuri

Their degree of closeness is uncertain, but the two get along well and seem to have a somewhat brotherly relationship. Kanao attempts to stop Tengen from taking Aoi with him at a time when it was highly unusual for Kanao to make his own decisions or go against his orders. As seen in the novel, Aoi previously considered Kanao to be difficult to live with, as she never showed her own emotions. She also felt inferior to Kanao, as the latter could fight demons, which Aoi could not. However, when Kanao begins to open up and make her own decisions, she and Aoi begin to grow closer.

Shinobu Kocho

Shinobu is Aoi’s medical mentor and likely oversaw some or all of his training as a demon hunter. Aoi has a high opinion of Shinobu, like all the other butterfly girls. Shinobu cares for Aoi and feels sympathy for how his family was killed by demons. She also seems to feel some anger on Aoi’s behalf, remarking that none of the butterfly girls’ families would have been killed if the demons hadn’t been present during her fight against Doma.

Inosuke Hashibira

They met, for the first time, at the butterfly mansion. At first, he struggles to beat Aoi in all the trials as he doesn’t have a strong will. Later, he is finally able to adapt and beat her. Compared to Zenitsu and Tanjiro, he is tougher on her. He is one of the killers who volunteers in place of Aoi to go to the entertainment district on a mission with Tengen. After the Upper Rank 6 fight, he is once again transported to the Butterfly Mansion. Aoi is visibly saddened by Inosuke’s terrible condition, as he had poison all over his body and she thought it was too late to stop the bleeding. His tears, however, are quickly dissipated when he falls from the ceiling. She begins to see him as a whipping boy and starts arguing with Inosuke again. At Papillon Mansion, after the final battle, he exits Tanjiro’s room and heads to the kitchen to look for food. He attempts to steal food behind Aoi’s back, but Aoi notices him. She hands him a round tray of food prepared just for Inosuke and tells him that he can eat as much and when he wants from this tray. After this gesture, Inosuke visibly begins to see her in a good light. Eventually, she and Inosuke Hashibira get married and have a great-grandson named Aoba Hashibira. but she notices. She hands him a round tray of food prepared just for Inosuke and tells him that he can eat as much and when he wants from this tray. After this gesture, Inosuke visibly begins to see her in a good light. Triviality

  • Aoi’s name, Aoi (アオイ) can have different meanings depending on the kanji used. For example, her name can be translated as “hollyhock” (葵) or “blue” (青い).
  • However, his name is spelled with three katakana characters, so the meaning is currently unclear. However, since her character design revolves around the color blue, it can be assumed that it is the color blue in nature.
  • Aoi appears to have low self-esteem, as seen when she disregards surviving the Final Selection.
  • She also participated in the same final selection as the Mist Hashira, Muichiro Tokito.
  • Aoi placed 24th in the first character popularity poll with 103 votes.
  • Aoi wanted a sister, so she pestered Kanao Tsuyuri to choose her surname.
  • Aoba shares the romaji spelling of the first part of his name with Aoi (however, the “ao” in “Aoi” and the “ao” in “Aoba” are written with different characters). Since Sumihiko Kamado, Kanata Kamado, Toko Agatsuma, and Yoshiteru Agatsuma share parts of their names with their ancestors, this is also the case for Aoba.
  • Aoba works in science, just like Shinobu in the butterfly mansion where Aoi lived.
  • Aoba has jet black hair rather than hair that fades from black to blue like Inosuke’s, just like Aoi.

Quotes

  • (To Inosuke Hashibira) “If you’re hungry, eat this. This plate is just for you, so eat from it whenever you want. But stop stealing food! »
