With the hype surrounding Demon Slayer’s current Entertainment District arc, it’s easy to miss some crucial details. The apparent survival of Demon Slayer’s favourite boar-headed youngster, Inosuke Hashibira, would be impossible to overlook. But how can anyone survive a poisoned blade stabbing them in the heart? The Demon Slayers faced Gyutaro and Daki in recent anime episodes, with the former being the true Sixth Upper Moon. Unfortunately for them, their fight was an uphill battle, with the demon and his sister frequently gaining the upper hand. Inosuke was mercilessly stabbed in the chest by Gyutaro with his poison sickle, ostensibly killing him after eventually decapitating Daki.
Fortunately, in last Sunday’s episode, viewers were pleasantly surprised to learn that Inosuke survived by moving his organs, including his heart, to avoid the attack. Although he has always been shown to be extremely flexible and has a body that functions differently than anyone else, this is the first time viewers have seen how far he is capable of. push his body’s unique ability.
Coincidentally, it’s not much different from classic X-Men enemy Mystique, who is capable of the same feat. For those unfamiliar with the X-Men, Mystique is a blue-skinned mutant with the ability to change her body in any way she wants, including replicating other people’s identities, mending herself, and even giving themselves wings and talons. She can even move her organs around because to her shapeshifting abilities. As valuable as a healing factor is, the user will still experience pain and will need to endure harm from the fatal wound, at least temporarily, so the ability to transfer essential organs away from attack is extremely useful.

In contrast, Mystique would be much closer to a real demon in the series. Mutant abilities are natural abilities, not learned skills, which makes her even more dangerous. In fact, Muzan Kibutsuji, the series’ main antagonist, is a shapeshifter himself, which means he and she have a lot more in common than she and Inosuke.
Inosuke may not have powers to speak of, but he’s still proven throughout the series, and especially in this arc, that he’s more than capable of defeating those who do. Frequently battling and defeating semi-immortal creatures made him stronger than the average human and, while there’s no way to be sure, possibly even stronger than Mystique.
