Information about Genya Shinazugawa
Genya Shinazugawa is a Demon Slayer who joins at the same time as Tanjiro and Zenitsu. Genya Shinazugawa, Shinazugawa Gen’ya) is a tough and rude individual, obsessed with nothing but killing demons. His personality subsequently changes after fighting alongside Tanjiro to save the village from the Hidden Swordsmen. Unlike most other Demon Slayers, he is unable to use breath or most sword fighting styles. Instead, he eats some of the demons he fights, and through his special digestive system, he temporarily gains demonic powers. His powers can be greater depending on how strong and how much of the demon he eats. When he eats a part of a demon, he is also sensitive to the latter’s weaknesses. He is the younger brother of Sanemi Shinazugawa, the current Wind Hashira, who always avoids him, unaware that his older brother wants him to have a normal life. Genya is mortally wounded while assisting the Hashira against Kokushibo, reconciling with his brother before dying.
Story of Genya Shinazugawa
Genya came from a family of nine with a hard-working mother who never slept and a deadbeat father who occasionally beat her despite her weak constitution – including the children.
Some time later, Sanemi learned that their father had been stabbed to death and made a vow with Genya to protect their siblings and mother.
One day, their mother had disappeared and did not return until daybreak. As suspicion and worry began to creep into the minds of the children, alone and unprotected, a loud rattling sound was heard from their door which they assumed was their mother but was instead a demon who immediately killed 5 of the 7 children and marked Genya.
Giving Genya no time to escape, the demon soon came for Genya but was interrupted by Sanemi and later went into battle with him and told him to “Run for it!”
Soon after, Genya went to call a doctor for his injured siblings but he soon came across Sanemi who had held the demon at bay and killed him with the help of the sun but was unprepared as the demon that attacked his family was none other than his mother. Very confused by what happened, Genya panicked and chose to blame Sanemi and call him a murderer for killing their mother and made himself believe that it was a wolf that attacked instead. family.
Later in his life, Genya realized his mistake and tried to reconcile his relationship with his brother. He trained to become a Demon Slayer, but he was unable to use the Breathing Styles. However, he discovered that he could eat demons and gain demonic abilities. It was discovered by the rock pillar Gyomei Himejima. Since Genya couldn’t use the Breaths, Gyomei didn’t make it his Tsuguko, but decided to train him anyway. At one point he met Sanemi and tried to apologize but Sandmi refused to call him telling him he doesn’t have a brother. With that, Genya decided to become a Pillar in order to establish a bond with his brother.
Personality of Genya Shinazugawa
Genya is a rude and moody individual; a “lone wolf” who refused all help from others and showed no interest in being polite or having manners. During the final selection, he brutally treated Kanata Ubuyashiki by grabbing her by the hair and shouting at her when she was a child. His bad temper and cheeky way of speaking is very similar to that of his older brother, Sanemi.
He became more open to cooperation during the battle against Hantengu, a high-ranking demon, where he worked alongside Tanjiro Kamado, Mitsuri Kanroji, and Nezuko Kamado. After a while, he learned to become more sociable and less rude to others, especially Tanjiro and his friends.
Sanemi’s refusal to acknowledge Genya also made him insecure, as he realized how weak he is compared to his companions. Nonetheless, he did everything he could to help his allies, even if it horribly maimed him in the process. Despite his brother’s harsh reprimands, he didn’t hold a grudge against him, a belief reinforced by Tanjiro and eventually by Sanemi himself.
Abilities and Powers of Genya Shinazugawa
Demonic Transformation: By eating a demon, Genya can temporarily gain demonic attributes from it. Depending on his strength, he can gain regeneration and physical strength equal to one. In this form, Genya was able to overpower Aizetsu briefly. Later, after consuming the wood created by Zouhakuten, Genya had enough strength and speed to throw 3 trees in rapid succession.
